QUICK, SOMEBODY CALL THE WAAAAMBULANCE
Apparently you haven’t been listening:
One person can work really hard and make a ton of money from it.
Another person can work exactly as hard and make jack shit.
A third person can do nothing their whole life and still end up a billionaire.
A fourth person can do nothing their whole life and make jack shit.
What I’m saying is not that nobody with lots of money worked hard for it. I’m also not saying that people with no money are all busting their butts for no reward.
I’m saying that there’s no correlation. Hard work does not equal money, and slacking off does not equal poverty. Having money doesn’t mean you worked hard, and being poor doesn’t mean you haven’t. Any combination of these two things can be true together without regard for the other.
And yeah, anyone is capable of succeeding if they put the work in, but let’s be real here: Some people have to put in a fuckton more work than others to be successful, and the people who, through no actions of their own, have to do almost no work to be successful have an obligation to use that privilege to try and create the (presently fictitious) world you’ve described, where anyone can achieve the same level of success if they put in the same amount of work.
