So whenever an extremely conservative person tells you they want small government and cites Jeffersonian Democracy, point out to them that these are the things Jefferson wanted to limit government’s ability to do:
- Military funding
- Prison funding
- Exert control over individuals
And here are some things he that he did not want to do:
- Limit people’s individual freedoms (unless they were anything but white men)
- Be near people
- Clean himself

Major difference between American politicians then and now:
- Thomas Jefferson, 3rd President of the United States: I’m worried about buying all this land because it might make the president too powerful.
- Rick Santorum, serious contender to enter the race to be the 45th: It’s okay if you’re gay but blowjobs, buttsex, and any form of sex that does not involve a penis entering a lady part and subsequently growing a baby should be illegal. As president, I’ll make it so because I’m totally not gay.

Really smart, but kind of a dirtbag. But then again, in the 18th Century, who wasn’t kind of a dirtbag?
He wrote America.
