I think my main problem with the olympics is that it bothers me that anybody who doesn’t fuck it up royally can “lose.” Every one of those athletes is better at the thing they’re doing than I will ever be, so I don’t get why there is any shame in taking home a bronze medal, or even no medals.
There is a stigma there, though, that I’ve seen people trying to make athletes feel bad for not winning any medals, but when you think about it, even if they’re the worst athlete at the olympics, they’re still in these games that purportedly use only the absolute best athletes from each country, which means if the core premise of the games is true, they’re still better than the other 99.9998% of people on Earth.
Cut them some damn slack, seriously, if they get a bronze medal, sure, they “came in third place,” but that’s out of almost seven billion.
Anyway, my point is that I like the costumes and I like demonstrations of incredible skill, but I really couldn’t care less who wins, because all of these people are way too skilled to lose in my mind. Even if it’s soccer or something with a rigid score structure, I honestly think all the teams, even the one who comes out on the bottom, should just be like “We’re still in the top .0001% of soccer teams, let’s get smoothies from every country!”
